Its obvious the occupy movement is being funded by Soro and his groups with Obamas quiet support. They should be proud of themselves for their actions of cleaning up after their mess. That is probably the biggest example of why they don't have decent jobs. Taking responsibility for their own lives seems to be a lesson they were never taught in college. Earning their own living instead of being a mootch on society also was a forbidden subject.
No, but I do think they need to become more sophisticated in delivering their message. But wait; they are us - the 99%. There is Wall Street and Big Corporations and the income/benefits disparity between us and Congress. Yep, all of them make the laws and we are just the lemmings.
Really, I expect the cities that are budget-tied and having to cut other services to pay for the police overtime -- and cleanup -- to send the bills directly to you since you think this was such as great movement (what did it actually accomplish, Really????) Plus, I didn't hear you offering the same support to the tea party protesters when they were protesting but you usually ridicule those on this forum who lean that way. Truth is, protesting nowadays -- no matter the issue or the side of the aisle you are on-- turns into a circus for the TV cameras and internet sites like youtube. I respect the right to protest peacefully, but do it constructively and have a message. Many protesters don't even know what they are protesting. How is that productive?
Commi, We wouldn't want people standing up for their rights and beliefs would we? Next thing you know they will be asking for the right to pursue happiness. How dare they! Overtime to cops? Sounds good to the cops I bet. Commi same old inability to understand the real world, the world outside your selfish existence. And you think the protestors are losers. Haaaa
Police cars damaged with people deciding to leave their feces there. Parks vandalized and "occupied" to the point where the average citizen can't even get through. Banks vandalized. Millions of dollars of police overtime charged to already cash strapped city budgets. yep, nothing bad, Really.
I find it ridiculous that people are sooo offended by the Occupy movement, there isn't a bad thing about it. The repeated right wing rhetoric of "there isn't even a clear message" "I don't know what they stand for" of course you don't, because you want to continue to pretend that this resemblance of capitalism we now have is working. Its not. We need cheaper healthcare, cheaper education and waaay less people getting million dollar bonuses from publicly owned companies. Do you want better healthcare? Better education? Will you ever be one of the people that get a 30 million dollar bonus?
I'll ask all others to join me in reporting this last post of PhageTheUntouchable as abusive. This forum will be as good or bad as we contribute or allow it to be.
So, before throwing in the towel on everything and calling each other Comrade, look at what has historically pulled us out. Keep in mind there isn't a permanent position of an economy. I contend they are cyclic. We're in that bottom quadrant of that circular cycle somewhere. The thrust that usually pulls us up and out is economic activity. We're going to need those people with the gold to fund and make that activity possible. Right now, they ain't getting off that gold because a bunch of people in tents want to take it from them under the pretense of equal distribution. You might say they're apprehensive. Cautious. Two things will be developed on the way out of this mess. We will have affordable energy. Joe Minnesotan is paying out about 25% of his income for energy. The other is a currency which doesn't keep losing its value. As we see these two things develop, I think we'll see more light and hope. I may be wrong. It just sounds more valid than crawling into a tent in a park.
bystander, your desires are honorable, but I have to challenge the feasibility of attaining them. Your not going to shame those with power and money into relinquishing them. Not even with a rifle. If those people get pushed on too much, they will follow the path the others took, which was to other countries. Tax Wall Street and see the unintended consequences that emerge. Do you think that Wall Street will just shut up and timidly pay the tax? No, Wall Street will move overseas. Investments will move overseas. Businesses with union labor will disappear. Remember your childhood fables. He with the gold is king. They have power. But don't tear your garment or slash your throat just yet. There may be some solutions in reality. You just have to brave enough to face it. Much of reality is comprised of facts. One fact is that inequality will always exist, and there is no getting rid of it. Some will always try harder, smarter, form networks. And prosper.
Too bad the dialog about Occupy dried up here. I think I understood the concept of what this was initially. I guess the local movement wan't up to dealing with any resistance or heckling from the natives. I've followed the Occupy activities in Hennepin County. Right now, the majority of the most vocal and visible protesters are in Washington, DC. They got there on a bus funded by Geo. Soros to protest the activities of the Koch Bros. No tents though, they are in hotels paid for by MoveOn**** and SEIU. Estimates put the number of protesters in Dc at a few thousand. Most bused in union members. So much for non-alliance with existing political ideologies. Either this group is ignorance driven or obtuse, and it's hard to trust either.
Actually I'm a farm girl from southwest MN. I wear non-brand name clothes, I drive a 16 year old domestic vehicle, I work 40+ hours a week, pay taxes, and pay my bills. I only have a Starbucks product when someone I'm with wants to stop there (about twice a year). I detest Ambercrombie, Aeropostale, and American Eagle. I say the pledge, pray to God, and I always sing along to the National Anthem. I believe in sensible taxes that benefit all and not just a few. I think that if a company can give their CEO a multi-million dollar bonus, then they can afford to keep those 100 workers they were going to lay off. I'm tired of tax loopholes for the wealthy and disproportionate incomes. I'm sick of seeing billionaires whining about taxes when they're clearly not about hiring more people or paying them what they worth--considering the workers did the work to make them billionaires. Most of all, I'm tired of the "It's all about me and what I can get out of life and screw you"
LOL at even calling it a movement. They tried to acomplish (who knows what really), they failed, they made a mess in a park. I think all those who participated should get a ticket, to help pay for the clean up of the parks.
bystander: seems like each lOWSer I talk to gives me a different definition of "what the OWS is really about". Maybe if you guys could decide on what you really stand for, I might take you seriously.
Seeing you cry about how evil corporations are, as you snap shots of the protest on your iPhone, drink your Starbucks latte, and wear your Ambercombie jackets, really makes me giggle.
Face it, it was just a hipster movement fueled by children with entitlement issues. Back to the real world, with you.
Clearly you haven't read up on what the Occupy movement is actually about. It's about income inequality and big banks that are too big to fail being bailed out before hard working Americans. It's about how tax breaks are given to the rich, but they still don't create jobs. Do some research. *******occupywallst****/about/
The cold weather is here, time for you kids to go back to your jobs at Walmart, Starbucks, and McDonalds. Cry about how unjust it is that you can't afford the brand new iPod.
Did you enjoy months of making fools of yourselves and stinking up all those parks?
Your parents only pay 1/2 your car insurance....you are the 99%.
